Tips for Homeschooling through the Holidays Plus Christmas Copywork Freebie for Everyone!

Spread the love

It’s almost Thanksgiving, which means it’s almost Christmas!

So Happy Thanksgiving, and Merry Christmas!

As a mom, finding something meaningful to do with my children from Thanksgiving to Christmas was hard.  We enjoyed crafts, baking, and more, but I always felt we missed something.  I wrote this The Birth of Jesus Copywork Book to fill this gap.

Here are a few more ideas to Homeschool through the Holidays

  • Read a Christmas-related book—A Christmas Carol is always good.
  • Do a unit study or three related to Christmas, New Year’s, and Thanksgiving.  There are many on the market.
  • Study about a past Christmas period in history.  Learn about how things are the same and different.
  • Study about Christmas in another culture or country.
  • Find a way to bless some people each week through the holidays.
  • For a fun math lesson, have the children plan where to hang lights outside and then measure etc to make sure they will have enough lights/cords to make it look nice.  They may even get a job from neighbors hanging lights if they do a great job

Create a 52 weeks of blessings plan.  Here are a few ideas for that:

  • Fill a box with canned goods, personal hygiene goods etc and donate to your local food bank.
  • Buy some gloves, hats, and mittens, and give them to a local shelter.
  • Help with an Angel Tree project
  • Sign up to be a “foster” family for a young child or family–similar to Big Brother/Big Sister
  • Gather some goods for your local animal shelter
  • Volunteer at a Saturday morning time for kids
  • Coach Little League
  • Plan a Birthday Party each Month for nursing home residents
  • Host a game evening at an assisted living facility
  • Help Decorate the halls of a hospital
  • Help organize a decorating contest between floors and departments at a hospital and then judge it.  ( I, Betty now work at a hospital and am impressed with the creativity)
  • Make cookies for someone
  • You get the idea.  Just keep going and see what ideas your family can come up with.

A few more things to keep in mind during this time of year…

  • Keep it simple
  • Don’t stress–if you find the activities are causing stress take a break
  • Don’t try to do too much
  • Try to keep the written work short and sweet each day and savor the fun memory making times each day
  • Try something new each week
  • Keep the kids involved as you plan the activities.
  • MAke time for just mom and dad to be together

Even though it’s a little early for Christmas, we’re giving away a free Christmas cursive handwriting practice eBook, based on the Bible.

Like most Christian families we read about the birth of Christ at Christmas. It’s a wonderful time to reflect on Christ, who He is to us, and the real meaning of Christmas. With this free copywork, your child can practice cursive handwriting while reviewing this Bible story. It’s a great, easy way to incorporate Christmas into a little handwriting practice.
