Mental health for moms isn’t on the priority list where it should be. Most moms put everyone and everything before themselves. Mom overwhelm kicks in and this can lead to an explosion of emotions.
War. It’s a war inside women. A battle to keep things together.
You may be mentally giving yourself a pep talk of You’re fine, You can do this, but your heart is screaming and you are struggling to hold things together.
Why are depression and mental health problems on the rise? Could it be because we aren’t focusing on what the bible tells us about our thought process?
Prevention is vital to your mental health! There is power in a positive attitude and thought process.
Time Out For Mom
To be able to give the best of ourselves to our family, we must take a necessary time out when needed.
God took a timeout. It’s encouraged in scripture. Read Mark 6:31, Genesis 2:2, Exodus 20:10-11, Hebrew 4:9-11 and so many more.
The Bible: our handbook on life from God our Heavenly Father. It gives us several bible verses to use as a guide for mental health.
Bible Verses on Mental Health for Moms
#1 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
This verse reminds us that before we let our minds run to the negative, we need to be going to God in prayer about the situation at hand. Allowing God’s truth to guard our hearts. Be anxious for nothing!
#2 So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34
No worrying allowed. As moms, we worry. WORRY. At any moment you can easily find a mom to confess her worry about her kids, their safety, the financial status of the home or worse. UGH! Worrying is a huge time sucker and leads to nothing, but a case of mental health breakdown.
#3 Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
We are reminded in this verse to trust God! That’s what all this basically boils down to. God will give you the strength you need. No fear. And there is something so comforting to know that God holds our hand.
#4 Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved. Psalm 62:1-2
I have this verse memorized. When I start to feel the mom overwhelm creeping in, I recite this back to myself. Allowing it to soak deep into my heart.
#5 A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart, the spirit is broken. Proverbs 15:13
Don’t forget to laugh! Find humor in your day. Read a funny book. Watch a comical movie. Laugh. It’s good for you. Proverbs 17:22 tells us laughter is like a medicine good for the soul.
