Physical activity is important for maintaining a basic level of wellness. However, as a mom, it’s even more important that we be intentional about taking care of our health. Self-Care is an important part of being a mom and wife.  If we are worn down to nothing, eating poor, no exercise, no time to think beyond the role of mom/wife, we will struggle meeting the needs being a mom and wife bring to us each day.  Below you will find a few tips on how to make time for self-care.

Taking Time for Self-Care

That means getting plenty of sleep, eating healthy and exercising. Yes, I know that life is hard and after a long day of keeping the kids alive and the house in one piece all we want to do is crash in front of the TV and eat some comfort food.

When we take care of ourselves we may find that we are blessed with:

  • Being a Better Caretaker
  • Fewer moments of the Mom Overwhelm
  • Being a Better Role Model to Our Kids

I’m not suggesting that we throw out all our favorite snacks and exercise for hours a day. Ugh, who has time for that!?! I do believe, however, when we take care of our physical health we will have more energy and be in a better mood to do our job.

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Benefits of Good Physical Health for Moms

#1 Fights Depression

Mom life can be a stressful life, more often than some would like to admit. Mom overwhelm and depression can sneak up on us and catch us off guard. Taking care of our physical health may help keep us clear minded, focused and improve our moods.

#2 Better Role Model

Our kids are a product of their home life. If we set the bar when it comes to exercise as parents, we will teach our kids that exercise is part of a normal day to day life. Parents who exercise will have kids that exercise.

#3 Improve Mental Health

Our mental health, as moms, needs to be on our priority list! We need the mental stamina to make it through the good and bad days no matter what that entails. Exercise makes you feel good because it releases chemicals like endorphins and serotonin that improve your mood.

#4 Boosts Energy

Exercising may help fight fatigue and boost energy levels. After running after the kids all day, we all could use a little extra energy!

#5 Exercise Can Be Fun

You may be asking how is exercise fun, but in all reality it can be fun. Find an exercise or sport your enjoy doing. If you enjoy it, you’ll most likely continue doing the exercise. Bring your friend along, catch up on each other’s life as you burn those calories.

#6 Improved Sleep

Getting in some exercise every day helps us sleep better. Everyone knows we usually feel so much better the next day after a good night’s sleep. And when we get a good amount of sleep on a regular basis this helps us to live happier, more productive lives.

We have the best job in the world! Motherhood. Being intentional about our physical health is so important for us to do our job well.
